Welcome to Part 2 in this series. This should serve as a checklist to make ensure your sites are much less likely to be regarded as MFA ( Made for Adsense ). Before I proceed I should advise you that this is what I would do. If you are in any doubt please refer to the official Terms of Service as I am not responsible for what you do on your websites or whether or not you or any of your sites comply with TOS. If you choose to follow what I would do, then that is entirely your personal choice
Okay, with that out of the way, let’s go through what I regard as an essential checklist if you’re running Adsense on any of your sites.
Number 1: Up-to-Date Privacy Policy
Make sure you have an up to date privacy policy on ALL of your sites that display Adsense ads. To comply with Google TOS you need to have one. Unfortunately they don’t actually give you a privacy policy you can use so you are left to come up with your own. Fortunately a lady called Jennifer Slegg has come to the rescue and provided publishers with a privacy policy you can use. Bear in mind you also need to mention the use of the Double Dart cookie. You can either write your own privacy policy or use the one below provided by Jensense:
Number 2: Don’t Put Images next to Ads
A couple of years ago publishers used to put tiny little pictures in-line with ads to increase the click through rate. This was later outlawed by updated TOS. Some publishers still put larger pictures next to the ads or just below them/above them. I recommend that you do not do this and remove any pictures even if they are just beneath the ad. Certainly if they are to the side of the ad remove them immediately. You do not want the visitor to be of any impression in the slightest that the pictures on your site/s are related to your ads.
Number 3: Give Your Visitors More Options ( IMPORTANT )
If you have a site filled with unique useful content that ONLY has Adsense ads on and nothing else, you are breaking Terms of Service. In other words if your sites only function/purpose is for monetization from displaying Adsense ads, then your site is classed as MFA ( no ifs, buts or maybe on this point ).
The Solution?
Give your visitor more options! What does this mean? Give them links to relevant information, products, sites, services and another route OUT of your site that isn’t via the Adsense ads you display on your site. The easiest way to do this is to sign up as an affiliate with a company like Amazon and put an affiliate banner on ALL of your pages that are displaying Adsense ads. You can also use the Ebay Partner Network.
Ezine Articles also provides a really cool widget you can use on your site with links to relevant articles. Both the Amazon and Ezine widgets are in javascript form so they are not read by the search engines. All you need do is copy and paste a snippet of code and they take care of the rest.
You can also register with CPA networks and display banners/links with relevant offers to the content on your site. By doing this you are giving the visitor relevant choices that aren’t just links to Content Network advertisers via the Adsense ads displayed on your site.
Resource List:
Amazon Associates ( Amazon – for the affiliate banners )
Ebay Partner Network
www.ezinearticles.com ( for a widget you can put on your site )
www.azoogle.com – ( CPA Network )
www.neverblue.com ( CPA Network )
Once you have done the above your site will be in no danger of being classed as MFA.
The above steps are really worth doing. It will only take you 5-10 minutes per site to implement these changes and you can rest easy that you’ve done all you could to comply with TOS.
